The Manyoni Private Game Reserve is a 23,000 hectare Big Five private game reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal

Established in 2004, the Manyoni Private Game Reserve (previously known as the Zululand Rhino Reserve) comprises of 17 private landowners who dropped their internal fences to form a 23 000 hectare private game reserve.

The reserve falls under the Mkuze Valley Lowveld which includes a variety of vegetation types, ranging from open savannah thornveld to riverine woodland, characterised by acacias and marula tree species. The diversity of habitats allows the reserve to support numerous wildlife species while also attracting an immense variety of birdlife. Today the reserve is home to over 70 mammal species including healthy populations of giraffe, kudu, nyala, wildebeest, zebra and of course the big five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant & rhino).

Shortly after its establishment, the Manyoni Private Game Reserve was chosen as a release site by the WWF Rhino Range Expansion Project. In 2005 the first rhino were released onto the property. Since then, the Manyoni Private Game Reserve has set up a rhino management program which monitors and protects the reserves rhino populations.

In 2009 the Manyoni Private Game Reserve was proclaimed a Nature Reserve under the South African Protected Areas Act, a big step towards its goal of developing a pristine protected area for indigenous and endangered species in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
